Chris Dixon
Chris Dixon is a gospel singer, pianist, and music director from Clarksdale, Mississippi. His mission is to encourage and inspire listeners throughout the Mississippi Delta and beyond with soulful melodies and uplifting lyrics, influenced by traditional gospel and contemporary Christian music. His music is influenced by gospel greats Andraé Crouch and Kirk Franklin, contemporary christian artists like Chris Tomlin, and even film score composer John Williams.
For as long as he can remember, Dixon has lived a life steeped in church and music. His father plays guitar, his mother is a skillful pianist, and he and his siblings all grew up singing and playing to some degree. “It was inevitable and natural. I’ve always felt it in me,” says Dixon. After attending a symphony orchestra performance of Peter and the Wolf in fourth grade, Dixon began to interpret music in a totally different way. The instrumentation allowed him “to be able to see, hear, and feel the story” in his imagination. Experiencing that performance was a catalyst in his life; he began to take piano lessons and listen to more diverse music. The gospel, country, classic rock, soul, classical, and jazz he began to devour made it clear to him that music is “the most powerful way to get a message across.”
Dixon is an intuitive keyboard player, with natural musical ability that has been honed by his dedication to the craft. His knowledge of rich, complex chords, melodies, arrangements, and rhythms makes him an excellent musical director. His greatest passion is helping others meet their musical goals, and his experience leading Joyfull Noise is where this passion and his abilities meet. He and Joyfull Noise are making an impression on the gospel music scene; individual members and/or the group have shared the stage with gospel icons such as Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir, Mississippi Mass Choir, Jennifer Holliday, Marvin Sapp, Kim Burrell, Donald Lawrence, Rev. Timothy Wright, the late James Moore, Karen Clark Sheard, and many, many more.
Chris Dixon is a creator and director of soulful, energetic, rich, uplifting music with vocals that soarto the rafters. He believes that God has him in the right place at the right time, serving his local house of worship and the greater Church. It has been said that his music lights a fire in the hearts of those who hear it, giving them hope and strength to induce change. As Dixon works to expose the rich, untapped music potential in the Mississippi Delta, he spreads hope and inspiration along the way.
