It was the early sounds of fellow church members that first influenced soulful pop singer Neshun to try her hand at singing. The McComb, Mississippi native moved to Cleveland to attend Delta State University where she graduated with a degree in entertainment industry studies.

Neshun counts Tina Turner as a musical influence, citing her boldness in creating the music she wanted to, but her main influences were the handful of ladies she grew up with who sang praises in church.

Neshun’s style includes hints of Lauryn Hill, Tracy Chapman, and Tori Kelly, and she describes her live shows as “chill, acoustic grooves with soaring vocals that touch your soul.” She serves as a worship leader at a local church, so she also counts singers like Davy Flowers and CeCe Winans as strong influences of her own musical style.

When asked about what inspires her, Neshun remarked, “The beauty of creation influences my music, and I look up to artists who are authentic and honest in their art.”

Neshun performs regularly as part of the Deep Roots live music series and has been featured at community arts events and in the Music From The Ground Up video series.
