The initial Deep Roots: Live Downtown! spring series wrapped up on June 11 and from all indications was a big success! The community continues to come out and enjoy the talents of our Deep Roots roster artists along with up and coming opening act performers from the DMI Entertainment Industry program at Delta State. By popular demand, Deep Roots just launched its second 8-week series of free outdoor music, which will run every Friday night from 6:30-8:30 PM through September 3 and will again be located at the outdoor awning of the Delta Arts Alliance. If inclement weather is forecast on any show dates, the show will move inside the historic Ellis theatre. As always, please ‘like’ and ‘follow’ the Deep Roots Facebook page for the latest updates. Pick up some takeout…bring your chairs…bring your coolers…bring your fans and skeeter spray…and bring some friends!

As we prepared for the second series of shows, Deep Roots and the City of Cleveland had the opportunity to host regional favorite, The Krackerjacks – Party Band of the South™, in a special ‘one off’ free concert for the community on July 10. Huge crowd and a whole lot of fun! Big shout out of thanks to the South Delta Planning and Development District for making this happen.

The first show of our second Deep Roots: Live Downtown! series featured R&B/Soul group, The CUZ Band, with “Prince of the Delta Blues” Keith Johnson on lead vocals and a guest appearance by GRAMMY nominee and Delta native, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. What a treat to have Kingfish drop by and jam with his friends…it was a special night indeed. Watch for the release of his upcoming album, 662, coming out this week!

Stay tuned for more news about Deep Roots as several artists have new music coming out soon along with some key performances. Don’t miss the I Still Want My MTV – MTV At 40 exhibit at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi, and stay tuned for the upcoming announcement of the this year’s series at our fantastic Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC).

Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Deep Roots effort to build community through the development and promotion of local roots music and musicians…please visit our website and share the word…Cleveland is indeed becoming quite a ‘music city!’
