DESCRIPTION:Mike “Delta Sun” Slaton and Chris “Brisket” Livingston are singer/songwriters from the birthplace of American Music\, the great state of Mississippi.  They have been performing for audiences around the Southeastern United States for over 25 years.  Their original and cover songs are inspired by legendary artists such as John Prine\, Bob Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, Tom Petty\, Grateful Dead\, and Widespread Panic.  Delta Sun & Brisket are currently performing acoustic shows at local venues around the Mississippi Delta and sometimes perform with the band Pharmtruck out of Oxford\, MS.

DESCRIPTION:Mike Slaton starting picking and singing after his parents snuck him backstage on his fifth birthday to meet Willie Nelson after a concert in Shreveport\, Louisiana.  He immediately got ‘bit’ by the ‘music bug’ and gave his first live performance at his kindergarten talent show\, singing “On The Road Again.” \nBorn and raised in Greenville\, Mississippi\, Slaton lived in Nashville five years before moving to North Carolina to write and perform while working as an organic farmer. He moved back home to Greenville to be close to family and the ‘long\, dark\, complex memory of the Delta that inspires me and feeds my soul.’ \nHis warm and poetic songs are influenced by meaningful experiences with his family and friends in the here and now and the memories of ancestors left behind and fall comfortably in the musical realm of Townes Van Zandt\, John Prine\, Steve Earle and Gillian Welch. \nSlaton has released multiple solo acoustic recordings of his original songs\, along with a six-song EP recorded with his band The Wheels in Wilmington\, North Carolina. He has opened for the Avett Brothers\, Lucero\, Chatham County Line\, Col. Bruce Hampton\, Cary Hudson\, and T-Model Ford. \nCurrently\, Mike Slaton is focusing on writing and completing songs to record and release a record inspired by his home state of Mississippi.

DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

DESCRIPTION:Americana singer/songwriter Billy Maines grew up in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in a village on the Hudson River near Woodstock\, New York. He started taking guitar lessons at an early age and played in various rock bands during high school. While attending college at Cortland College in New York\, Billy began honing his writing skills for a performing duo. \nAfter graduation\, Maines relocated to Boulder\, Colorado\, where the wide open music scene inspired his writing and encouraged his performing with different bands up and down the ‘front range’ of the Rockies. He plays guitar\, harmonica\, mandolin\, and fiddle across genres of Americana\, Alternative Rock and the Blues. He credits his main musical influences as The Band\, Neil Young\, Muddy Waters\, and Bob Dylan. \nAfter moving to the Mississippi Delta in 2004\, he learned to appreciate the rich heritage of the music of Mississippi\, began to perform as a solo artist and continues to do so today.

DESCRIPTION:This hot-shot southpaw guitarist from Nimes\, France\, funded his move to the States by selling his Gibson Les Paul guitar. He’s forged through a rough-and-tumble 20 years\, from jamming with blues legends to playing for hire. “I grew up on all American music — Rock ’n’ Roll and Blues — but back when I was playing in France I felt somewhat like a copycat\,” Frenchie says. “But as soon as I landed in the U.S. I felt at home\, because this was where the music I loved was born.” Although he’s played with many greats over the years\, Frenchie says “the highlight of my musical career was becoming a U.S. citizen” in August 2016.  \nAmerica has inspired Kevin “Frenchie” Sciou to follow his own path. From his humble beginnings to the sophomore release of his Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers album Praise: He defiantly beat the odds in his pursuit of the American Dream.”

DESCRIPTION:Some folks play the blues while some write about it and present it as their own because it is. Ray Cashman is the latter. This guy is the real deal. His songs are on the radio around the world and his European show date list alone would be the envy of anybody looking to expand internationally. Growing up on the upper Texas coast\, his music is referred to as gulf coast gumbo as it is made up of multiple regional influences both current and from the past. Cashman has had his music featured in film and television\, and his  2007 release\, Texassippi Stomp\, was widely praised and landed on several  ‘best of’ lists for blues recordings.  Cashman has toured extensively in Europe and the UK and in the USA from the Gulf Coast to Canada. Cashman has performed at such notable festivals as SXSW- TX\, King Biscuit Blues Festival – AR\, Juke Joint Festival-MS\, Lucca Blues Festival- IT\, Deep Blues Festival-MS. He has released 9 studio albums with the latest being 2023 Delta Sound. After living for over 20 years in music cities such as Austin and Nashville\, Cashman resides in Clarksdale\, Mississippi.

DESCRIPTION:Variety is the popular ‘old school’ R&B/soul duo of siblings Eric Edwards and Shara White from Cleveland\, Mississippi. They have been performing together across the country for more than 25 years. Their upbeat repertoire is the kind of music that\, according to Eric\, makes audiences want to ‘eat barbecue and drink cold beer.’ \nEric and Shara\, born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, grew up in a musical home where they both started playing and singing at the early ages of 5 and 6 years old\, respectively. While citing their father\, Eddie Lee Edwards\, as their primary musical influence\, they also are quick to acknowledge the contributions of their former band director\, Mr. James Stamps\, and musical friends Dr. Alphonso Sanders and Joe Johnson in encouraging and shaping the duo’s musical development and direction. \nEric’s voice has been compared to the Isley Brothers\, and Shara’s voice draws comparisons to Whitney Houston\, but they both feel that God has given them each a unique voice. Although known for their R&B style\, the duo is also deeply rooted in gospel music. The duo has released an album together titled There Is No One Else\, and in addition to writing original music for God’s Anointed Voices\, Eric has released an R&B project titled Those Vinyl Days!

DESCRIPTION:Americana singer/songwriter Billy Maines grew up in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in a village on the Hudson River near Woodstock\, New York. He started taking guitar lessons at an early age and played in various rock bands during high school. While attending college at Cortland College in New York\, Billy began honing his writing skills for a performing duo. \nAfter graduation\, Maines relocated to Boulder\, Colorado\, where the wide open music scene inspired his writing and encouraged his performing with different bands up and down the ‘front range’ of the Rockies. He plays guitar\, harmonica\, mandolin\, and fiddle across genres of Americana\, Alternative Rock and the Blues. He credits his main musical influences as The Band\, Neil Young\, Muddy Waters\, and Bob Dylan. \nAfter moving to the Mississippi Delta in 2004\, he learned to appreciate the rich heritage of the music of Mississippi\, began to perform as a solo artist and continues to do so today.

SUMMARY:Deep Roots 2026 Summer Series - Michael 'Cadillac' Dennis @ Backdraft
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

DESCRIPTION:Alanna Mosley is a singer-songwriter from Carrollton\, Mississippi. Her music—best described as Americana or roots—blurs genre lines\, and her cover tune catalog spans decades. With guitar in hand\, Mosley is an unstoppable jukebox of great music that invites the listener to keep humming along. \nAt an early age\, Mosley was soaking in her music education: 90s guitar queens Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin\, country rockers like Dwight Yoakam and Steve Earle\, and the gauntlet of great singer-songwriters from Carole King to Brandi Carlile. She began playing guitar at the age of 12 and hasn’t quit since. Over the years\, Mosley has built an impressive repertoire of cover songs while also honing her own songwriting skills. She released an EP of original music in 2014\, and in 2016 she was the winner of the prestigious Jimmie Rodgers Songwriting Competition.
