Mississippi Marshall is a two-time International Blues Challenge Semi-Finalist and a Mississippi Music Foundation award winner for Best Instrumental.  Marshall and his grandson\, Grayson\, were semifinalists  at the 2024 International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, TN. He recently released his fourth album titled I Believe I’ll Go Back Home.

DESCRIPTION:Americana singer/songwriter Billy Maines grew up in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in a village on the Hudson River near Woodstock\, New York. He started taking guitar lessons at an early age and played in various rock bands during high school. While attending college at Cortland College in New York\, Billy began honing his writing skills for a performing duo. After graduation\, Maines relocated to Boulder\, Colorado\, where the wide open music scene inspired his writing and encouraged his performing with different bands up and down the ‘front range’ of the Rockies. He plays guitar\, harmonica\, mandolin\, and fiddle across genres of Americana\, Alternative Rock and the Blues. He credits his main musical influences as The Band\, Neil Young\, Muddy Waters\, and Bob Dylan. After moving to the Mississippi Delta in 2004\, he learned to appreciate the rich heritage of the music of Mississippi\, began to perform as a solo artist and continues to do so today.

DESCRIPTION:This hot-shot southpaw guitarist from Nimes\, France\, funded his move to the States by selling his Gibson Les Paul guitar. He’s forged through a rough-and-tumble 20 years\, from jamming with blues legends to playing for hire. “I grew up on all American music — Rock ’n’ Roll and Blues — but back when I was playing in France I felt somewhat like a copycat\,” Frenchie says. “But as soon as I landed in the U.S. I felt at home\, because this was where the music I loved was born.” Although he’s played with many greats over the years\, Frenchie says “the highlight of my musical career was becoming a U.S. citizen” in August 2016. America has inspired Kevin “Frenchie” Sciou to follow his own path. From his humble beginnings to the sophomore release of his Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers album Praise: He defiantly beat the odds in his pursuit of the American Dream.”

DESCRIPTION:Mike Slaton starting picking and singing after his parents snuck him backstage on his fifth birthday to meet Willie Nelson after a concert in Shreveport\, Louisiana.  He immediately got ‘bit’ by the ‘music bug’ and gave his first live performance at his kindergarten talent show\, singing “On The Road Again.” Born and raised in Greenville\, Mississippi\, Slaton lived in Nashville five years before moving to North Carolina to write and perform while working as an organic farmer. He moved back home to Greenville to be close to family and the ‘long\, dark\, complex memory of the Delta that inspires me and feeds my soul.’  His warm and poetic songs are influenced by meaningful experiences with his family and friends in the here and now and the memories of ancestors left behind and fall comfortably in the musical realm of Townes Van Zandt\, John Prine\, Steve Earle and Gillian Welch. Slaton has released multiple solo acoustic recordings of his original songs\, along with a six-song EP recorded with his band The Wheels in Wilmington\, North Carolina. He has opened for the Avett Brothers\, Lucero\, Chatham County Line\, Col. Bruce Hampton\, Cary Hudson\, and T-Model Ford. Currently\, Mike Slaton is focusing on writing and completing songs to record and release a record inspired by his home state of Mississippi.

DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

DESCRIPTION:Some folks play the blues while some write about it and present it as their own because it is. Ray Cashman is the latter. This guy is the real deal. His songs are on the radio around the world and his European show date list alone would be the envy of anybody looking to expand internationally. Growing up on the upper Texas coast\, his music is referred to as gulf coast gumbo as it is made up of multiple regional influences both current and from the past. Cashman’s  release\, Texassippi Stomp\, which featured Jimbo Mathus\, (Squirrel Nut Zippers\, Buddy Guy) was widely praised and placed on a number of critics year end best of lists for blues recordings.  Cashman has toured extensively throughout Europe and in the USA from the Gulf Coast to Canada and sea to shining sea.Notable festival appearances include SXSW\,  King Biscuit Blues Festival\, Le Blues Autour Du Zinc (France)\, Juke Joint Festival\, and the Lucca Blues Festiva (Italy). Cashman has released 9 full\, studio albums with the latest being 2023 Delta Sound. After living for over 20 years in music cities such as Austin and Nashville\, Cashman resides in Clarksdale\, Mississippi\, in the heart of the Delta.

DESCRIPTION:Keith Johnson\, “Prince of the Delta Blues\,” is in the process of carrying on and upholding a family legacy in the entertainment industry as he is the great nephew of blues icon\, Muddy Waters.  He is also the grandson of Texcellar Fields\, blues singer from the early fifties and sixties who once has an opportunity to sign with Chess Records back in the day.  Keith was born in Glen Allen\, Mississippi… a small town in the heartland of the Mississippi Delta.  He is a graduate of Riverside High School and Delta State University\, where he received a BA degree in Entertainment Industry Studies with a concentration in Audio Engineering and an MBA in Human Resources. Keith was a featured performer at the 2015 International Conference on the Blues where he performed with GRAMMY Award winner\, Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Keith is an accomplished blues musician and winner of the 2016\, 2018\, and 2019 local International Blues Challenge Competition sponsored by the Vicksburg Blues Society and the Mississippi Delta Blues Society. He has shared the stage with GRAMMY winner Bobby Rush and has performed at the Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival\, the Chicago Blues Festival\, King Biscuit Festival\, the Great Delta Bear Affair\, and toured in Brazil at the Mississippi Delta Blues Festival. Keith has released one album entitled Come to Mississippi\, and a Christmas EP entitled Sounds like Christmas. Keith currently has one single entitled “Creeping and Walking”. \nJoining Keith for the Deep Roots: Live Downtown! show will be the “Princess of the Delta Blues\,” Abee Hudson.

DESCRIPTION:Tricia Walker is a singer and songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Faith Hill\, Patty Loveless and Alison Krauss\, whose performance of Tricia’s Looking in the Eyes of Love earned a GRAMMY® award. A recording artist herself\, Tricia has released eight studio recordings in multiple styles. Tricia moved to Nashville where she worked as a songwriter for three different publishing companies\, as a backing musician for Opry star Connie Smith\, Shania Twain and Paul Overstreet\, and founded the Original Women in the Round\, one of the most celebrated foursomes at Nashville’s prestigious Bluebird Café\,  with Pam Tillis\, Karen Staley and Ashley Cleveland. Tricia returned to her native Mississippi in 2006 to become director of the Delta Music Institute\, an entertainment industry studies program at her alma mater\, Delta State University. She retired from DSU in 2019 as Director Emerita\, DMI\, and Professor of the Practice Emerita in Entertainment Industry Studies. She is now serving as the music ambassador for the City of Cleveland\, MS where she is leading the Deep Roots music initiative. \nDanny Abraham\, well-known Cleveland men’s clothier\, started playing piano when he was six years old and played in bands and as a solo artist throughout his youth. “I played when I was at Ole Miss with a group that went all over recruiting students and was able to share the stage with celebrities like Bob Hope and others\,” says Abraham. When I returned to Cleveland\, to attend Delta State\, I joined the campus music group Renaissance\, and we literally toured all over the world. Even after I opened my store\, Abraham’s\, I continued to play with people whenever and wherever I could.” Danny’s first CD\, Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me\, was a labor of love and faith. The gospel collection of all original compositions was produced by the legendary Gordon Mote and recorded in Nashville. Abraham said he was blessed to be surrounded by a number of talented and well-known musicians on his CD. From Cleveland/Delta business legend to gospel performer\, Danny Abraham’s life is proof that with faith and hard work\, anything and everything is possible.

Growing up on the upper Texas coast\, his music is referred to as gulf coast gumbo as it is made up of multiple regional influences both current and from the past. Cashman’s  release\, Texassippi Stomp\, which featured Jimbo Mathus\, (Squirrel Nut Zippers\, Buddy Guy) was widely praised and placed on a number of critics year end best of lists for blues recordings.  Cashman has toured extensively throughout Europe and in the USA from the Gulf Coast to Canada and sea to shining sea.Notable festival appearances include SXSW\,  King Biscuit Blues Festival\, Le Blues Autour Du Zinc (France)\, Juke Joint Festival\, and the Lucca Blues Festiva (Italy). DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

At an early age\, Mosley was soaking in her music education: 90s guitar queens Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin\, country rockers like Dwight Yoakam and Steve Earle\, and the gauntlet of great singer-songwriters from Carole King to Brandi Carlile. She began playing guitar at the age of 12 and hasn’t quit since. Over the years\, Mosley has built an impressive repertoire of cover songs while also honing her own songwriting skills. She released an EP of original music in 2014\, and in 2016 she was the winner of the prestigious Jimmie Rodgers Songwriting Competition. After living and gigging in Charlotte\, North Carolina for several years\, she returned to the Mississippi Delta in full force.
