DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

DESCRIPTION:This hot-shot southpaw guitarist from Nimes\, France\, funded his move to the States by selling his Gibson Les Paul guitar. He’s forged through a rough-and-tumble 20 years\, from jamming with blues legends to playing for hire. “I grew up on all American music — Rock ’n’ Roll and Blues — but back when I was playing in France I felt somewhat like a copycat\,” Frenchie says. “But as soon as I landed in the U.S. I felt at home\, because this was where the music I loved was born.” Although he’s played with many greats over the years\, Frenchie says “the highlight of my musical career was becoming a U.S. citizen” in August 2016. America has inspired Kevin “Frenchie” Sciou to follow his own path. From his humble beginnings to the sophomore release of his Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers album Praise: He defiantly beat the odds in his pursuit of the American Dream.”

SUMMARY:Deep Roots 2025 Fall Series - Mike 'Delta Sun' Slaton @ Bar Fontaine
DESCRIPTION:Mike Slaton starting picking and singing after his parents snuck him backstage on his fifth birthday to meet Willie Nelson after a concert in Shreveport\, Louisiana.  He immediately got ‘bit’ by the ‘music bug’ and gave his first live performance at his kindergarten talent show\, singing “On The Road Again.” Born and raised in Greenville\, Mississippi\, Slaton lived in Nashville five years before moving to North Carolina to write and perform while working as an organic farmer. He moved back home to Greenville to be close to family and the ‘long\, dark\, complex memory of the Delta that inspires me and feeds my soul.’  His warm and poetic songs are influenced by meaningful experiences with his family and friends in the here and now and the memories of ancestors left behind and fall comfortably in the musical realm of Townes Van Zandt\, John Prine\, Steve Earle and Gillian Welch. Slaton has released multiple solo acoustic recordings of his original songs\, along with a six-song EP recorded with his band The Wheels in Wilmington\, North Carolina. He has opened for the Avett Brothers\, Lucero\, Chatham County Line\, Col. Bruce Hampton\, Cary Hudson\, and T-Model Ford. Currently\, Mike Slaton is focusing on writing and completing songs to record and release a record inspired by his home state of Mississippi.

DESCRIPTION:Some folks play the blues while some write about it and present it as their own because it is. Ray Cashman is the latter. This guy is the real deal. His songs are on the radio around the world and his European show date list alone would be the envy of anybody looking to expand internationally. Growing up on the upper Texas coast\, his music is referred to as gulf coast gumbo as it is made up of multiple regional influences both current and from the past. Cashman has had his music featured in film and television\, and his  2007 release\, Texassippi Stomp\, was widely praised and landed on several  ‘best of’ lists for blues recordings.  Cashman has toured extensively in Europe and the UK and in the USA from the Gulf Coast to Canada. Cashman has performed at such notable festivals as SXSW- TX\, King Biscuit Blues Festival – AR\, Juke Joint Festival-MS\, Lucca Blues Festival- IT\, Deep Blues Festival-MS. He has released 9 studio albums with the latest being 2023 Delta Sound. After living for over 20 years in music cities such as Austin and Nashville\, Cashman resides in Clarksdale\, Mississippi.

DESCRIPTION:Tony Boyd is a solo musician born and raised in the hills of Sentobia\, MS. Described as “a laid-back tribute to Americana\,” Boyd has performed his own variety of folk\, country and blues music throughout the region for over three decades. Boyd picked up the harmonica at the age of twelve\, but only really started performing publicly in his thirties. Now\, you can find him playing all throughout North Mississippi multiple times a week\, filling venues with his soothing acoustic tunes. Bob Dylan is his main musical idol\, and that’s plain to see and hear in the music that Boyd masters. “Artists who found themselves in the ‘country rock’ genre of the 70s definitely influenced me.” Boyd has quite the resume when it comes to the number and quality of shows he has played. He’s shared the stage on a number of occasions with Blackberry Smoke—an Atlanta-based touring rock band—and has opened for the likes of Kix Brooks\, Cowboy Mouth\, and Bo Diddley. He has even played the celebrated Thacker Mountain Radio show as a solo artist. There are two sides to Tony Boyd – the mellow guitarist/vocalist with a deep sense of time and place in heartfelt lyrics\, and the bluesy rocker who plays the harmonica with raucous abandon. As the former\, his sound has been described as “soothing” or even “haunting\,” and is inspired by artists like Guy Clark\, whose songwriting sensibilities measure up to true art. As the latter\, it’s a sound that doesn’t need words to communicate clearly. As both\, Boyd is drawn to music that describes the human condition\, expresses a variety of emotions\, and is deeply therapeutic. Boyd is one of those artists who plays music that definitely sounds good as the backing track to a crowded bar\, but is an even greater treasure when you listen closely. DESCRIPTION:Tony Boyd is a solo musician born and raised in the hills of Sentobia\, MS. Described as “a laid-back tribute to Americana\,” Boyd has performed his own variety of folk\, country and blues music throughout the region for over three decades. Boyd picked up the harmonica at the age of twelve\, but only really started performing publicly in his thirties. Now\, you can find him playing all throughout North Mississippi multiple times a week\, filling venues with his soothing acoustic tunes. Bob Dylan is his main musical idol\, and that’s plain to see and hear in the music that Boyd masters. “Artists who found themselves in the ‘country rock’ genre of the 70s definitely influenced me.”

DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta\, ‘Cadillac’ Dennis’ musical journey began with singing and playing drums with the church choir as a kid.  While majoring in music at Mississippi Valley State University\, he began dabbling with guitar and piano.  This led to his playing in a number of Gospel bands in his twenties\, before starting to play guitar for various Blues artists. Dennis formed his own band\, the Big Time Rhythm & Blues Band in the spring of 2010 and booked performances throughout the South\, Northwest\, and even Hawaii.  He recently released a single\, “2X Woman”\, which he co-produced with the help of another Deep Roots musician\, Eric Edwards.

After moving to the Mississippi Delta in 2004\, he learned to appreciate the rich heritage of the music of Mississippi\, began to perform as a solo artist and continues to do so today.

DESCRIPTION:This hot-shot southpaw guitarist from Nimes\, France\, funded his move to the States by selling his Gibson Les Paul guitar. He’s forged through a rough-and-tumble 20 years\, from jamming with blues legends to playing for hire. “I grew up on all American music — Rock ’n’ Roll and Blues — but back when I was playing in France I felt somewhat like a copycat\,” Frenchie says. “But as soon as I landed in the U.S. I felt at home\, because this was where the music I loved was born.” Although he’s played with many greats over the years\, Frenchie says “the highlight of my musical career was becoming a U.S. citizen” in August 2016.  America has inspired Kevin “Frenchie” Sciou to follow his own path. From his humble beginnings to the sophomore release of his Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers album Praise: He defiantly beat the odds in his pursuit of the American Dream.”

She began playing guitar at the age of 12 and hasn’t quit since. Over the years\, Mosley has built an impressive repertoire of cover songs while also honing her own songwriting skills. She released an EP of original music in 2014\, and in 2016 she was the winner of the prestigious Jimmie Rodgers Songwriting Competition. After living and gigging in Charlotte\, North Carolina for several years\, she returned to the Mississippi Delta in full force.
